David Hears that "Prometheus" is getting the McYapandFries treatment

After all the anticipation, we finally get to see the product of visionary director Ridley Scott’s return to Sci-fi on this week’s podcast, as Gavin and I review Prometheus. No need to worry about spoilers, as usual we steer well clear of those, however we will be discussing the plot in obsessive detail in a separate, spoiler-infected, Promethe-cast which should be available soon.

Also this in this week’s show I also review Malaysian movie Nasi Lemak 2.0, we talk about new trailers for the latest from Quentin Tarantino, Denzel Washington and um…Disney Animation along with a few cool posters, and the usual distractions such as Gavin’s feelings on Jake GyllenHATE.

Show Notes

Things! Of the week!

And finally, just to prove Gavin wrong here’s the link to my 2009 review of Wristcuters:A Love Story

Malaysia Games and Comics Convention

by on Jun.04, 2012, under Podcasts

It’s not often that we’re wrong here at McYapandFries, and it’s even less often that we apologise for anything, but we are idiots on a regular basis, which is a roundabout way of saying that on last week’s cast we totally forgot to review the Malaysian Games and Comics Convention, which a certain Mr Gavin Yap presided over as head minion, a week prior.

This week’s show kicks off with our attempt at rectifying this grievous error, before we then proceed to make a whole bunch of new ones reviewing Snow White and the Hunstman; starring Kirsten Stewart, Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth, reviewing super-powered “found footage” flick Chronicle, and while discussing the merits of a possible Pauly Shore comeback, Spaced (AGAIN!), Cannes, and venerable old 2000AD.

We hope you like the show

As usual here’s the show notes those of you reading along at home:

All this and some new features! As usual if you want to feature in the show drop us an email or use the form at the contact us link up at the top of the page.

Best Superhero Movie Ever?

by on May.01, 2012, under Podcasts

Yes…it’s finally here

The road that began years or decades ago when you first heard of or read your first Avengers comic, or that began for us in Summer 2010 when we first saw Earth’s Mightiest Heroes assembled on stage at San Diego Comic Con, ends this week with the release of Marvel’s The Avengers in cinemas across the world (everywhere that is except America this week for some reason).

As you can guess Gavin and I “go deep” on our review in this week’s cast but for the cautious we do avoid spoilers until the 45th minute of the cast, and we very clearly state this, so you can’t blame anyone but yourself if you hear too much.

This weeks’s show also has a very quick, non-spoilery review of The Cabin in the Woods and some of the usual news for which the show notes are below, Enjoy!

Podcast 100!

by on Apr.16, 2012, under Podcasts

100

Nope, we've not even made ONE of these doing this bloody show

Yes, not only have we managed to do another podcast only the week after the last one, but  this week’s show also marks the 100 episode (I’m not evevn kidding!).

With our usual panache, style and attention to  preparation we’ve done absolutely nothing special for this week’s podcast to celebrate and instead we get on with the very important work of chatting about movies, insulting our audience (and Forest Whitaker) and reviewing John Carter of Mars, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and of course (!!?) A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas.

As usual here’s the show notes for anything we referenced on the show in case you want to take a look with us:

Lets see if we can manage another 100!! or maybe … 8!

Laserdicks For Rental

by on Apr.08, 2012, under Podcasts

As you can tell from the headline, ripped from the podcast itself, absolutely nothing has changed during our little break from podcasting. We have returned as immature and vulgar as ever.

Thor and Agent Coulson eagerly await the mcyapandfries podcast to finish downloading, on dial-up

As we’ve been away quite a while, on this week’s show we discuss only the very best and most interesting  of the movie news that happened during the break, or at least the most interesting  news that we can stilll remember after a month or two.

We’re also playing catch up on the review front, with The Hunger Games, Underworld Awakening, The Descandants, Abduction (!?) and Midnight in Paris all getting reviewed in one form or another on the show.

As usual, I’ll leave you with the show notes so you can share in the trailers and pics we discussed, as well as with the promise that we should now be back on a regular schedule, providing you with more podcast goodness, more often.

Until next time:

Stick with the program!

by on Nov.29, 2011, under Podcasts

Would you use an almost new spy-gadget from this man?

This week we are back on schedule and back to somewhat decent sound quality (I think, fingers crossed) with another great show featuring the usual news, including the casting of the new Q in the ext Bond movie “Skyfall” (that’s him over there) and reviews of “Larry Crowne”, directed by Tom Hanks and starring Julia Roberts amongst others; Ryan Gosling’s “Drive”; “The Trip” starring Steve Coogan (Alan Partridge and Phileas Fogg from the “Around the World in 80 Days” movie with Jackie Chan) and Rob Brydon (Uncle Bryn from Gavin and Stacey) as themselves as they argue and try out restaurants.

You’ll also finally get to hear Gavin’s thoughts on Tin Tin .
Here’s the show notes:

Finally, here’s Amy Smart’s..um acting ability in full force as referred to by Gavin in the podcast, enjoy!

Amy Smart ...um.. enjoying herself.

This podcast is BROKEN

by on Nov.24, 2011, under Podcasts

Consider yourself warned.

Due to either the electromagnetic properties of Gavin’s farts, the fact that David Knight’s musical genius disrupts all known recording media, or because I screwed up the “refurbishment” of our “recording” “studio“(aka messed up the reinstallation of my laptop) this weeks’ podcast goodness is plagued by clicks and echo’s which I’m afraid no end of post processing and audio magick has been able to fix.

I’m putting it up as we had such a good time making it and we managed to get a guest star to join in, but the quality is, like, the worst. Consider this McYapandFries lost tape volume 1 (although that should really be the London-KL skype cast with 5 minutes delay between each end, but that’s really unlistenable).

Anyway if you can bear the rubbish sound quality this week’s cast features reviews of comedy Drama “Crazy, Stupid Love”, starring Steve Carrell, Ryan Gosling, Julianne Moore and Emma Stone; banking crisis drama “Margin Call” with a stellar cast featuring Kevin Spacey, Paul Bettany, Jeremy Irons and Zachary Quitno amongst others; body switch gross out comedy “The Change up“ starring Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman, and finally “Melancholia”, the latest from Danish nut job Lars von Trier.

As usual here’s all the trailers that we discuss in the show, the next show should be back to full audio quality once more (if not quality of content). Enjoy!
